Show how to send a ping to check for the user's authentication status.

For example, if a user leaves their computer overnight with your site open in the browser when they return their session will be expired (if not using remember me). Normally, this would still show the user as authenticated which would result in an error if they click on an auth-protected action.

Please show how this can be gracefully handled.
